I was born in Carlisle, Cumbria on 10th January 1964, & brought up in the sprawling
metropolis of Boustead Hill.
I attended St. Margeret Mary's primary school; then Newman Secondary for 3 years; and finally Austin Friars School from 1978 to 1982.
I went up to Leicester Polytechnic (now De Montfort University) to study "Science and
the Environment". I collected a 2:2 Hons Degree in 1985, & immediately failed to get
a permanent job; this being the pinnacle of The Thatch's reign, anything as
namby-pamby as science (especially an unprofitable one like ecology) didn't
deserve stable employment!
I did however manage to get several short term contracts at various research institutes, my stint at ITE - Merlewood Reaseach Centre being the longest, where I worked for Dr R. Bunce and the Land Use Study Team for 2 years( excellent acronym!).
I returned to Leicester Polytechnic where I completed an MSc in Information Technology. I worked until recently as a Software Engineer at Thales for over 22 years.
